Building an e-commerce business isn't easy. We know, because that's how we got started. As e-commerce business owners ourselves, we grew our revenues to a combined $1M and over 44,000 shopping cart checkouts a year.

So we can attest to it: it’s hard work!

But we probably made it harder for ourselves… just because of who we are. As a team of geeks with OCD type “A” personalities, we were always obsessing over statistics, and finding ways to do things more efficiently. We were already doing pretty well. But sometimes we'd still be up at 3am, looking at the numbers... and thinking up new ways to get better results from what we had.

The figures highlighted a huge problem for us... and for all e-commerce sites.

We were getting a lot of checkouts, but
 losing at least 70% of those potential checkouts to cart abandonment.

We wanted to know why, but had no way of contacting these people if they didn't submit the checkout form. So we created a script which captured their email addresses and telephone numbers as they typed them into the checkout form… without them submitting anything.

They typed… they left... and we saved their data, so we could follow up with them. We also developed the technology to detect the moment they abandoned the checkout process, and then contact them to ask what the problem was. We found that these cart abandoners just needed a gentle push to come back and buy... and remarkably, about 50% did so when we contacted them!

So then, a large scale software development project began... which lasted for over 2 solid years.

That’s how GhostMonitor was born.

While developing the software, we also started testing the perfect email sequence to send to people who abandon the checkout process. We noticed that the cart abandonment solutions on the market were delaying the first follow-up email to cart abandoners. That delay could be an hour… and sometimes up to 24 hours.

But our tests showed that the best time to email was immediately after visitors abandoned their cart. So we looked into why other cart abandonment solutions were delay emailing prospects, and discovered the reason: They just don't have the technology to detect the exact moment someone leaves their cart. But we did… which meant we could start emailing our prospects immediately. And wow, did that make a huge difference! Compared to a 25-40% email open rate for the publically available cart abandonment solutions, our open rates reached a remarkable 55-60%.

As a result, we saw a 15% increase in our revenue. We realized this was the type of result other e-commerce owners would love to see.
